Digital Signature (DSC) Guide
January 8, 2026
In the digital era of compliance, the pen-and-paper signature is dead. From filing Income Tax Returns to incorporating a company on MCA, the Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) is your identity.
What is a Class 3 DSC?
Earlier, there were Class 2 and Class 3 DSCs. Now, Class 2 has been discontinued. Only Class 3 DSCs are issued, which offer the highest level of security. They are used for:
- GST Registration & Filing
- Income Tax Filing
- MCA (ROC) Compliance
- E-Tendering
How to Register DSC on Income Tax Portal
- Log in to the e-Filing portal.
- Go to My Profile > Register DSC.
- Enter the email linked to the DSC.
- Select Provider (e.g., ePass 2003) and Certificate.
- Enter the PIN and click Sign.
Pro Tip: Ensure you have the ’emBridge’ or specific token driver installed and running on your PC before attempting registration.
Common Errors & Fixes
- “Token not found”: Reinstall the USB driver. Try a different USB port.
- “Certificate mismatch”: Ensure the name in PAN matches exactly with the name in DSC. Even a spelling mistake can cause rejection.
